Lemons are such an amazing fruit. They are are often very inexpensive at the store. They look and smell great, too. You can use them in cooking and around the house to clean with. Here are some fantastic uses for lemons.
1. Keep odors off of cutting boards. Just rub a piece of a lemon on a cutting board or wooden bowl to get the odors out. The smells will quickly disappear.
2. Keep fruits & veggies from turning brown. A little lemon juice sprinkled over apple slices will keep them from turning brown. You can also use this trick on guacamole.
3. Clean copper pots. All you need is a small amount of juice from the lemon and some salt. Mix it in a bowl and let it sit for a minute on the copper. You don’t even need to scrub.
4. Lighten your hair. A lemon is much cheaper than paying for highlights. Just apply some to your hair where you want the highlights before you go in the sun. Easy and inexpensive.
5. Garbage Disposal Cleaner. Lemons are great to place in the disposal to make the kitchen smell fresh. You can either just put them in there or you can make these frozen cleaners here.
6. Get rid of a sore throat. You can gargle with some lemon juice to get rid of a sore throat. I like to use lemon juice with some warmed whiskey. It makes the throat feel much better.
7. Clean out the Tupperware. If your Tupperware has a bad smell you just can’t get rid of let it soak in a mixture of lemon juice and water. It only takes about 20 minutes to get rid of the bad smells.
8. Lemon Vinegar Cleaner. You can easily make your own lemon vinegar cleaner. It’s cheaper than buying cleaners and it only contains two ingredients. I love it for cleaning the floors.
9. Room Freshener. I love to take leftover lemon peels and place them in a pot of water on low. Let them simmer away and leave a great smell in your room.
10. Whiten your nails. If your nail tips are too yellow, just soak them in a cup with water and juice of a lemon. Let them sit for about five minutes and wash your hands.
11. Ants? Let them know their not wanted by squirting a little lemon juice near the area they are coming in by. They will quickly get the hint and go elsewhere.
12. In a water to add some flavor. I love to add a slice of lemon to water to give it just a bit of flavor. Water with lemon usually free at a restaurant versus paying for a soda.
What is your favorite way to use a lemon?
