I have two dogs and they make my house smell, well, like dogs. It’s not to bad in spring or fall when the windows are opened every once in a while. However, about the middle of winter the house just gets that doggy smell. I used to buy the Glade Carpet Powder and it worked great to help with the smells, however I noticed it was getting to be $2 a bottle or more. So I decided to make my own homemade carpet deodorizer. It’s so easy, and doesn’t cost much money.
I put a cup of baking soda in a canning jar. Then drop in 4-5 drops of essential oils, I love this Purification Oil from Amazon. It’s usually under $5 for a bottle. Put the lid on the canning jar and give it a couple good shakes.
You can use a nail to poke a 4 or 5 holes in the lid. Now you have a great shaker to shake the Carpet Deodorizer over the carpet.
Once you shake it on the carpet let it sit for 15-30 minutes. Then vacuum the carpet. The room will smell great! You can try all different essential oils to make the room a different scent. Plus, the smell of dogs are long gone.
