The other day I was cooking and I dropped some food in the fan area of my range. I have a downdraft range, so my fan is in a odd spot.
When I reached down to get the food out I realized how gross my filter had become. It was so greasy and sticky, I knew I was going to have to clean it right away. See the dark spot in it? It was pretty much solid grease.
I found a recipe here on The Manly Housekeeper. I altered it slightly because my fan filter is so big. I boiled a big pot of water, then because I don’t have a pot big enough to hold my filter, I dumped the boiling water in my sink. Then I added 2 Tablespoons Baking Soda.
I then added the filter to my sink and let it soak for about 20 minutes. It didn’t take but a minute or two for the water to start to get very dirty.
After 20 minutes I rinsed the filter off in the sink and let it dry. It looks so much better, almost all the grease is gone, and I didn’t have to scrub at it.
