Do you like mangoes but aren’t really sure how to cut them? I used to avoid buying mangoes because I didn’t know how to cut them. Then I realized they are so easy to cut and you don’t need a special tool. Aldi often has mangoes on sale for only $.39 each.
First you will want to place the mango stem end down on your cutting surface. Than cut the two large sides off the mango making sure you don’t hit the large seed in the middle. The two large sides are called the cheeks of the mango.
You can then cut a light pattern in the cheeks with a knife. I like to dice the mango. You can now easily use a spoon to scoop out the fruit.
Then cut off the other two sides of the mango. Again you will want to avoid the seed in the middle. You can cut a pattern into the fruit and use a spoon to scoop it out.
You can get the last bit of fruit from the mango by cutting off the corners left on the mango. If you go to deep and hit the seed just pull out your knife and try cutting off less fruit.
You now have a nice bowl of mangoes ready for eating or freezing. Mangoes will keep in the fridge for 2-3 days so you may want to cut up several at one time and store them in a covered bowl or dish. Enjoy!
