Back to School time can be very expensive. One easy way to save is to take advantage of the tax free shopping days that your state offers. Most states (unfortunately not all) have a couple days that you can shop and not pay sales tax on those back to school items.
What items are included? This can vary greatly state to state. You can see a list of all the tax free shopping day here. In some states not only is school supplies (crayons, pencils, book bags and more) covered, but computers or electronics are included too. Some grades in our school district this year is requiring ipads. Not paying taxes on the computers or ipads could easily save you $25-$50 dollars.
Some states also allow clothing & shoes to be included in the tax free deals. So this is a great time to purchase any clothing or shoes your child will need to go back to school. Remember to make a list of what your child needs, just because it’s tax free doesn’t mean you need to buy it.
Make sure you read the fine print on the items included in your state. You can go here and find your state. Then click on the link your state has provided to see a detailed list of items. Most states tax free days are August 1st-3rd so get your list ready and start shopping.
